It’s official–we have a sold-out group of 15 travelers going to Tsugaru, Japan from August 3 through August 16. The group includes nine students (four from Bath Middle School, two from Morse High School, and three from Brunswick High School) plus six adult chaperones.
Our intrepid travelers all got together on Friday, April 1 to do some fundraising for their trip at Bath Iron Works. They dressed in colorful yukata and decorative hats and successful raised over $1000 for the cause–thank you BIW employees!
Our group is looking forward to their homestay in Tsugaru, swimming in the Cheseborough Cup (the annual swim race commemorating the sinking of the Cheseborough and the rescue of its sailors), and marching in the famous Nebuta Festival–not to mention all the soba-making, temple-visiting, kendo-demonstrating, and more! They’ll cap off their trip with a couple of days in Tokyo, where the street styles, creativity, and history of this capital city will no doubt create unforgettable memories for our group. To get a taste of what these students will experience on their trip, read some accounts from previous years’ travelers.
We’re now looking for homestay families here in the Midcoast region to host our Japanese visitors from July 24 through August 1, 2016. This is a wonderful opportunity to get a taste of Japan without leaving town! Many friendships have been created and maintained over the years thanks to a homestay–if you have children in your family, there’s no better way to broaden their perspective. Please join us as a homestay family!
