Orientation Sessions

Both travelers and host families will get plenty of help in preparing with our orientation sessions, led by students and faculty from the Bowdoin College Japanese Department.

Travelers are required to attend four mandatory orientation sessions. The sessions will be comprised of community building activities, short lectures, role plays, simulations and cultural demonstrations. Think of it as a fun, entertaining, engaging and educational ‘culture’ workshop! Some of the topics included are the following: cultural expectations, Japanese language basics, Japanese etiquette and taboos, trip itinerary and packing help as well as safety/health/security information.

The orientation schedule for the 2017 Summer Program has not yet been set. Sessions will typically take place at Bowdoin College and/or Morse High School.
